Jakarta. Governor Pramono Anung has inaugurated a boxing ring and skatepark beneath the Susukan–Ciracas Flyover, popularly known as the Pasar Rebo Flyover in East Jakarta, as part of efforts to curb youth brawls and provide positive spaces for young people.

Officials said the initiative has helped reduce street fights, although authorities continue to address violence in several areas.

“Previously, East Jakarta was known for gang groups. But after having this facility, the number of brawls has dropped drastically,” Pramono told reporters after inaugurating the facility.

Pramono added that, following the development of the facility in Ciracas District, the Jakarta administration plans to build a similar venue in Kampung Melayu.

“I hope it will benefit young people in East Jakarta so their energy can be channeled into places like this, making them more productive, preventing them from getting involved in brawls, reducing street fights, and encouraging them to take part in safeguarding Jakarta,” he said. “This place will be jointly managed.”

The boxing ring and skatepark were developed as part of efforts to reduce youth gang activity and street brawls by providing constructive outlets for young people. The project followed extensive discussions between local gang groups and the regional government, which eventually reached an agreement to build the facility as a solution to recurring social conflicts.

Meanwhile, Metro Jaya Police Chief Asep Edi Suheri said police had recorded a high number of brawls in 2025, with at least 440 cases of street fights and illegal street racing handled across the Greater Jakarta area.

East Jakarta Mayor Munjirin said the number of brawls in East Jakarta had declined. Authorities recorded 132 brawl incidents throughout 2025, while 55 cases have been reported so far in 2026.

Youth brawls have become a serious concern in the capital, often leaving victims severely injured and, in some cases, resulting in death.

One such incident occurred on Feb. 10, when a junior high school student was killed after being attacked with sharp weapons during a clash between two groups on Mayjen Sutoyo Street in Makasar District, East Jakarta. The victim sustained severe injuries and later died.
