Jakarta. A concert by American rapper Ye and the Jakarta Running Festival are estimated to have generated a combined Rp625 billion ($44.2 million) in economic impact for the capital, Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung said on Monday.

Ye’s concert accounted for an estimated Rp450 billion, while the Jakarta Running Festival contributed Rp175 billion, reflecting spending associated with major entertainment and sporting events, including ticket purchases, accommodation, retail and local businesses.

Ticket sales for Ye’s concert alone reached Rp328 billion, Pramono said, with the overall estimate covering additional economic activity before and after the show.

“The impact of Ye’s concert was greater because activities began before the event and continued afterward. Even yesterday, many people were still staying in Jakarta,” Pramono told reporters.

The concert, held at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium on Saturday, drew tens of thousands of fans, including 20,000 visitors from outside Indonesia. Their presence supported spending at hotels and shopping malls, extending the economic benefits beyond the concert venue.

Pramono said the combined figure could underestimate the events’ actual contribution because not all consumer spending could be captured.

“Personally, I believe the actual figure is higher because not all public spending can be counted,” he said.

The Jakarta Running Festival attracted more than 37,000 runners from 48 countries, while its accompanying expo provided a platform for local businesses and international brands.

The expo involved 49 micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) and 130 brands, around half of which were Indonesian, Pramono said.

The events form part of Jakarta’s efforts to leverage sports and entertainment to stimulate economic activity, attract visitors and support businesses across the city.
