Indonesia Backs Jordan's Firm Measures Against Church Attackers
Jakarta. Indonesia recently condemned the brutal church attack in Jordan, saying that it would “fully support” responses made by the country’s King Abdullah II against the perpetrators.
On Friday, three masked gunmen opened fire at a Greek Orthodox church in Karak governorate, killing nine people and injuring 40 individuals. King Abdullah II had vowed the “harshest retaliation” against the assailants in what authorities described as an “act of extremist terrorism”.
In a statement published by the Foreign Ministry Sunday night, Jakarta reiterated its “firm stance” against acts of terrorism and those that violate the sanctity of places of worship. Southeast Asia’s biggest economy also “stands in solidarity” with Jordan during “this difficult time”.
“Indonesia fully supports the firm measures taken by the Jordanian authorities to maintain national stability and bring those responsible to justice,” the statement reads.
Indonesia will keep an eye on the situation to make sure that its nationals in Jordan are all safe.
Jordanian authorities are still searching for the assailants. The country has declared three days of mourning following the attack.
