Jokowi and Prabowo's Presence at BNI Investor Daily Summit Signals Positive Market Outlook
Jakarta. The two-day BNI Investor Daily Summit opened with remarks from outgoing President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo and concluded with a vision statement by incoming President Prabowo Subianto on Wednesday evening, symbolizing a smooth transition of presidential power and ensuring continued political stability.
This unique event has sent a positive signal to the market and investors, according to Enggartiasto Lukita, executive chairman of B-Universe Media Holdings, which co-hosted the summit alongside state-owned bank BNI.
“As far as I know, there hasn't been an investment forum where the outgoing president opened the event, and the incoming president delivered the closing remarks," Enggartiasto said in his speech, expressing gratitude for Prabowo's participation.
He mentioned the historic nature of the moment, calling it more of a "blessing" than mere coincidence, noting that President-elect Prabowo Subianto is the grandson of BNI’s founder, the late Margono Djojohadikusumo.
Enggartiasto, who served as Trade Minister from 2016 to 2019, added that the summit had become the largest investment forum of its kind, bringing together thousands of entrepreneurs, investors, business leaders, and decision-makers from Indonesia and abroad to exchange ideas and insights.
“The success of this event is largely due to the support from government officials, ministers, national and multinational business leaders, academics, researchers, and our colleagues in the media. We sincerely hope that this collaboration will continue, providing valuable information and a reliable guide for all stakeholders in business and the Indonesian economy,” Enggartiasto added.
In his remarks, Prabowo expressed his family’s deep connection to BNI.
“BNI is a source of pride for our family. My grandfather, Mr. Margono, was tasked by Bung Karno to establish the first bank dedicated to Indonesians," Prabowo said, referring to Indonesia’s founding father, Soekarno.
As the country’s current defense minister, Prabowo is set to take office as Indonesia’s eighth president on October 20, after winning a landslide victory in the recent elections.
The day prior, President Jokowi opened the BNI Investor Daily Summit, emphasizing that the transition of government was proceeding smoothly.
Jokowi praised Prabowo's efforts in preparing for the upcoming administration, ensuring that the new government could start working effectively from day one. He recalled that during his first term, it took 1.5 years to fully consolidate power, a delay he believes should be avoided this time.
“That’s why a smooth transition is crucial -- not only to maintain optimism but also to ensure both political and economic stability,” Jokowi said.
