Jakarta. PT Freeport Indonesia has distributed 2.5 ton of humanitarian aid to the communities affected by the 7.7-magnitude earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara.

PTFI President Director Tony Wenas also symbolically handed over the aid to East Nusa Tenggara Governor Melki Laka Lena in Kupang. The aid will eventually reach several affected areas, including Mbeliling District, as well as Nagekeo, Manggarai, and East Manggarai regencies.

“East Nusa Tenggara is a close neighbor; the bonds of kinship drive usto do more. We hope this aid can lighten the burden on our brothers and sisters here," Tony said.

PTFI organized an employee donation drive. The aid, which would be distributed by Human Initiative, comprises  700 packages containing bedding kits, personal hygiene kits, and shelter kits. PTFI is supporting the construction of five temporary shelters and four emergency schools to help meet the needs of affected communities during the emergency response period.

"We can't face this challenge alone. Support from the private sector, institutions, and the general public is crucial to speed up recovery," Melki said.

The company's employees from various locations — including Tembagapura, Kuala Kencana, Nabire, Gresik, and Jakarta — also raised donations through the #PTFIPeduliNTT (PTFI Cares for NTT) movement.

PTFI also deployed an emergency response team and along with doctors and paramedics from Timika.

The PTFI team provided medical and emergency response support in several affected locations across Flores, including the villages of Wae Malang, Haju Wangi, Liang Dalo, Golo Wontong, and Waso.

“Since mid-August, PTFI has deployed six personnel — comprising a rescue team and medical staff — to NTT. The team arrived on August 22 and served until Aug. 31, assisting with rescue efforts and providing healthcare services to affected residents. During their deployment, the PTFI medical team treated nearly 500 patients. All these activities were coordinated with the Energy Ministry through the emergency response command post,” said Tony.

PTFI also channeled humanitarian aid through the Indonesian Red Cross.. The aid consisted of 300 hygiene kits, 300 basic food packages, 300 shelter kits, and 300 bedding kits. PTFI also facilitated the delivery of aid from the Dana Kemanusiaan Kompas, comprising approximately 70 boxes of canned food and medicines with a total weight of around one ton.

PTFI had also helped previous disaster responses, including during the Sumatra floods and the collapse of the Al-Khoziny boarding school in Sidoarjo.
