PTFI Donates 11 Kilometers Long Water Pipes to Mimika
Jakarta. Mining giant PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) donated pipes that span up to 11 kilometers combined to Mimika Regency Government for clean water distribution.
The donation comprised of 1,724 pipes.
The initiative received praise from Mimika Regent Johannes Rettob.
"Collaboration like this helps boost infrastructure development in response to what the people need. It creates benefits that can be directly felt by the entire community," Johannes said.
Director & EVP Sustainable Development PTFI Claus Wamafma said this partnership had been going on for a long time.
"Our commitment is to continue to work side by side with the Mimika Regency Government as well provide sustainable support, so that communities can enjoy access to water clean and truly suitable and safe for consumption," said Claus.
PTFI has given high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipes of various types to be used by the local public works agency to expand the water networks.
This program supports the Mimika Regency government's target to serve up to 50,000 house connections by the end of 2027. Currently, around 14,000 households have connected to the clean water service network.
Collaboration in providing clean water between PTFI and the Mimika Regency Government has been achieved ongoing since the construction of WTP 430 in Kuala Kencana.
Facilities built by PTFI with an investment of around Rp 150 billion, it has two water treatment units, two tanks reservoir with a total capacity of 2.5 million liters, as well as four pump units capable of supplying it up to 200 liters of clean water per second.
