Jakarta. President Prabowo Subianto officially launched the new Tanah Abang Station, a project that the state-run construction firm PTPP took part in.

PTPP is the project's main contractor for the project, that also received the Transportation Ministry's backing. The station is also one of the national strategic projects aimed at supporting intermodal connectivity in the Greater Jakarta area.

According to Prabowo, improvements to the public transportation infrastructure are key in achieving an efficient and humane urban mobility.

"Railways and all mass transit systems are a strategic and vital part of modern society. Indonesian railways and their entire system carry 486 million passengers annually. Under my leadership, the government will focus on improving the railway system," Prabowo said.

The Tanah Abang Station Improvement Project Phase I (Building and Track Works) has a contract value of Rp 309 billion or approximately $18.5 million (including the value-added tax VAT).

PTPP also constructed two new rail lines, widened passenger platforms, and improved supporting facilities such as waiting areas, security systems, and pedestrian circulation. As a result, service capacity has doubled, from approximately 150,000 to 300,000 passengers per day.

Tanah Abang Station currently serves an average of 36,000 passengers and more than 100,000 transit passengers daily. With the completion of this first phase, PTPP hopes to ease the peak-hour congestion while better integrating the existing mass transportation: the Commuter Line (KRL), LRT, MRT, TransJakarta, and other feeder modes.

"As a national construction company, PTPP is proud to contribute directly to the modernization of Indonesian public transportation. The construction of the New Tanah Abang Station is a concrete manifestation of the role of state-owned enterprises in providing more efficient, inclusive, and sustainable future mobility," PTPP Corporate Secretary Joko Raharjo said.

This project is part of the government's strategic steps to strengthen the rail-based public transportation system and support the development of transit-oriented development (TOD) areas. The project also reflects PTPP's commitment to support the government's priority programs, better known as the Asta Cita.

"With its extensive experience and strong capabilities in the transportation construction sector, PTPP is committed to being the government's primary partner in realizing a national mobility system that is smart, green, and oriented toward public comfort," Joko said.
