Poll Shows Prabowo Popular Among NU, Muhammadiyah Voters in E. Java

Jakarta. A recent survey by pollster Poltracking Indonesia showed that Prabowo-Gibran was a top pick for people in East Java who were affiliated with Muslim groups Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) and Muhammadiyah. 

The poll showed that Prabowo-Gibran earned 60.9 percent of the respondents’ votes among the NU voters in the province. Followed by Ganjar-Mahfud (16.3 percent) and Anies-Muhaimin (15.3 percent). 

“Although it is Muhaimin and Mahfud who explicitly come from NU,” Arya Budi, the research director at Poltracking Indonesia, said. 

NU voters’ support for Prabowo-Gibran also grew by 19.2 points from 41.7 percent (September 2023 to 60.9 percent (January 2024). Support for Anies-Muhaimin was stable, going up by 0.7 points from 14.6 percent. NU voters for Ganjar-Mahfud had dropped from 37.5 percent to 16.3 percent.

“We saw Ganjar-Mahfud voters among NU followers changing their votes to Prabowo-Gibran,” Arya said.

Prabowo is also on the lead among voters affiliated with Muhammadiyah in East Java. Prabowo-Gibran earned 55.4 percent of the votes. Followed by Anies-Muhaimin (21.4 percent) and Ganjar-Mahfud (14.3 percent).

The survey took place on January 25-31.
