Jakarta. Melawi local Magdelyne Kolanus recently talked about how the state health insurance scheme Jaminan Kesehatan Nasional, or JKN, had saved her life.

Indonesia has the nationwide JKN program that aims to ensure healthcare access for its people. Magdelyne initially joined the program in 2021, during which she was still under her parents' care. She was classified as the mid-tier Class 2 participant. The 24-year-old now has a job of her own, but she remains a member of the JKN.

"I choose to stay a participant in the national health insurance BPJS Kesehatan because I feel safe and protected," Magdelyne said.

She talked about how the JKN program had helped her when she had dengue fever. She had to undergo treatment at the Manggala Community Health Center in Pinoh Selatan District for three days and two nights. BPJS Kesehatan, the agency that runs the JKN program, fully covered her medical needs.

"I received my medication free of charge," Magdelyne said.

According to Magdelyne, the staff at the community health center was also helpful. They also regularly checked the patients' conditions. Thanks to BPJS Kesehatan, the inpatient registration process was hassle-free. Magdelyne admitted that she only needed to show her BPJS Kesehatan card.

She went on to say how her experience was one of the many examples of how BPJS Kesehatan's JKN program had been helpful for the people, especially those who may have difficulty paying for medical expenses when sick.

"Without BPJS, I might have struggled to cover the costs. But with BPJS Kesehatan, everything is covered. This is very helpful, especially for low-income communities like us," she said.

"I hope that BPJS Kesehatan can keep this up so they can help the underprivileged communities in accessing medical care without having to worry about the costs. I'm personally very grateful because the services provided have always been great."
