Gibran Asks N. Sumatra Supporters to Vote Despite Leading in Polls
Jakarta. Vice presidential candidate Gibran recently reminded his supporters in North Sumatra to vote and not let their guard down despite leading in polls.
Hundreds of millions of Indonesians are set to cast their votes on Feb. 14. Past polls have shown that Prabowo and Gibran are in the lead as surveys showed they have booked over 50 percent of the respondents' votes.
“If you are already sure about [voting for Prabowo-Gibran], do use your voting rights. Surveys have shown that our electability rate tops 50 percent. But don’t get complacent. Survey results would be meaningless if there are many people who do not vote on February 14,” Gibran told a sea of his supporters in Deli Serdang, North Sumatra, on Wednesday.
Gibran also told the young people to just ignore negative comments in case they stumble upon them on social media. “Just ignore [the negative comments] and smile. And let’s not badmouth other candidates’ programs. Let’s agree on that, shall we?” Gibran said.
Gibran also promised that he would make sure that development does not only concentrate in Java but would span across the archipelago should he win the election. Gibran later vowed to continue social assistance programs such as the Family Hope program, the Indonesian Health Card (KIS), and the Indonesian Smart Card (KIP).
“Don’t you think [we should] continue with the Sumatra tollway, as well as the Trans-Sumatra tollway? We will pursue an equitable development that is no longer Java-centric,” Gibran said.
He told the crowd to vote for Prabowo-Gibran in the upcoming election.
“And on Feb. 14, please guard the voting stations until they really finish [counting the votes].We must prevent cheating,” Gibran said.
