Jakarta. Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto said that farmers were the nation’s heroes as they played a major role in providing food for the people.

“I extend respect to all the farmers in Indonesia. You are our nation’s heroes. You are the true heroes,” Prabowo said, speaking to approximately 35,000 heroes in Blora, Central Java, on Thursday.

“You use your hands, sweat, and body to produce food for all Indonesians,” Prabowo said.

That is why every leader should work towards improving the welfare of farmers and their families, according to Prabowo. He added: “For that reason, the Jakarta elites, politicians, and everyone must do their best to help the farmers live better lives.”

"Every Indonesian leader (must) be determined to improve the farmers’ lives, as well as their families. So we can build a great nation together. That is my desire,” Prabowo said.
