Jakarta. Jakarta. Integrated Waste Management Facility (IPST) ASARI, supported by PT Chandra Asri Pacific Tbk (Chandra Asri Group), has added a new pyrolysis machine, raising its plastic waste processing capacity to 300 kilograms per operation cycle.

The newly commissioned unit has a capacity of 200 kilograms per cycle, bringing the total number of pyrolysis machines at IPST ASARI to two.

The machine is equipped with vacuum pyrolysis technology, which produces higher-quality, cleaner oil with minimal residue compared to previous methods. The upgrade expands IPST ASARI’s ability to process low-value plastic (LVP) into usable products.

“With the operation of these two machines, IPST ASARI is now capable of managing more than 35,000 kilograms, or 35 tons, of LVP annually. This capacity increase allows more plastic waste to be diverted into a more structured processing stream, adding value to community-level waste management systems” Chandra Asri Group Circular Economy and Partnership Manager Nicko Setyabudi said.  “It also reinforces Chandra Asri Group’s commitment to advancing circular economy practices and improving waste management quality in Indonesia” he added.

The types of plastic processed through pyrolysis technology at IPST ASARI include polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), and polystyrene (PS), which are converted into oil with characteristics similar to diesel fuel.

From 2021 to 2025, IPST ASARI has processed more than 79 tons of plastic waste. Of that amount, over 32 tons were treated using pyrolysis technology, producing more than 26,000 liters of oil. This highlights the role of pyrolysis in handling plastic waste, particularly materials that are difficult to recycle through conventional methods.

The addition of the new machine is expected to further increase IPST ASARI’s contribution to reducing plastic waste that could otherwise end up in landfills, while supporting a more integrated waste management system.
