Jakarta. Envoys from the US, Canada, and Mexico have claimed success in co-hosting the 2026 World Cup, as global enthusiasm soars high for the finals.

The three neighboring nations have jointly hosted soccer matches between various national teams over the past month. The vast majority of the tournament is taking place in the US. While their teams had lost on the field, it was a win for all three, hosting-wise, according to their respective envoys at a friendly match with Indonesian diplomats on Saturday.

“Even though the American team did not get into the finals, I think that we really won in terms of hosting an incredible game together,” Joy M Sakurai, the chargé d’affaires ad interim for the US mission to Indonesia, told reporters that day.

Juan-Pablo Valdes, the head of public affairs at the Canadian Embassy, revealed that over 625,000 spectators across over 13 matches had come to the host cities of Toronto and Vancouver. He was upbeat that Canada was able to help create “unforgettable memories” for the spectators. He added: “We can definitely say that it was a success for Canada as a host and a team. Cooperation is needed to be able to pull an event of this magnitude.”

Mexican Ambassador Francisco de la Torre Galindo raved about the people’s hospitality towards the foreign supporters.

“We show the world that three countries together can be the best hosts. Mexicans love visitors. Every single team that is not Mexican, they begin to feel Mexicans,” Francisco said.

The final fixture between the Argentines and Spaniards will take place next week at MetLife Stadium. Countless Indonesian soccer fans are expected to pull an all-nighter for the match.
