Jakarta. BPJS Kesehatan, Indonesia’s social security on health, recently showcased the digital services of national health insurance or JKN’s digital ecosystem at an international forum.

BPJS Kesehatan is hosting the 17th International Conference on Information and Communication Technology in Social Security in Bali. According to BPJS Kesehatan’s director for information technology Edwin Aristiawan, digitalization is pivotal to drive accessibility and affordability of quality healthcare services, thus paving the way for universal health coverage.

“Today, the implementation of JKN is supported by a robust digital infrastructure. A digital-based innovation, sample data management, supported by adequate command center management, becomes pivotal for an optimum JKN program,” Edwin was quoted as saying in a recent press statement.

According to Edwin, as many as 112 million data transactions take place in JKN’s digital ecosystem every day. This is equivalent to 1,296 data transactions per second. There are also 397.8 billion row data, which encompass participation data, health services and contributions. This calls for high data security. To this end, BPJS Kesehatan adopted six layers of data protection, starting from determining security parameters, network security, endpoint security, security in the human element, and security for applications to security for the data held.

Edwin introduced BPJS Kesehatan’s digital-based innovations, including its mobile app. Edwin said the app had greatly slashed waiting time at hospitals from 6 hours to 2.5 hours. The app also lets users access their health service history in the last 12 months via i-Care JKN. This also lets doctors and patients check their records of visits, medical procedures and medications given by health facilities in the last 12 months. There are also the chat assistant CHIKA, Voice Interactive JKN (VIKA), and the BPJS Health Care Center 165, among others. BPJS Kesehatan also offers administration services via Whatsapp (Pandawa). Businesses can sign up their employees as JKN participants using E-Dabu.

“Other innovation includes health history screening, which aims to be a preventive measure for JKN participants in preventing chronic diseases. There is also telemedicine which can make it easier for participants to receive treatment remotely,” Edwin said.
