Jakarta. United Tractors (UT), a subsidiary of Astra International, has partnered with the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) to hold a Training of Trainers (ToT) program for the Disaster-Resilient Village, or KATANA, initiative, aimed at strengthening community preparedness and resilience against potential disasters.

The five-day training was held from June 22 to 26, 2026, at UT School Surabaya in East Java, as part of Astra Group's commitment to supporting resilient and sustainable communities.

The program seeks to strengthen the capacity of communities at the village level, enabling them to become better prepared, more responsive, and self-reliant in dealing with potential disasters. Through the collaboration with BNPB, participants received knowledge and practical skills in disaster risk reduction, mitigation, preparedness, and emergency response.

"Through the KATANA Training of Trainers, UT and BNPB seek to strengthen the capacity of village cadres so they can serve as facilitators and drivers of disaster preparedness within their communities. We believe communities equipped with the knowledge and skills to mitigate disasters will be better prepared to face various risks, allowing our assisted villages to develop into more resilient, self-reliant, and empowered communities," Himawan said.

The training brought together KATANA cadres from UT-assisted villages that are part of the Disaster Risk Reduction Forum (FPRB), including Sumbergondo, Tulungrejo, Giripurno, Mojorejo, Gumingsir, Tawangargo, Aribaya, and Sumbermujur.

Representatives from regional disaster mitigation agencies (BPBD) in Malang Regency, Batu City, Banjarnegara Regency, and Lumajang Regency, as well as the East Java provincial BPBD, also took part as strategic partners in strengthening collaboration on disaster risk reduction.

Over the five-day program, participants attended a series of learning sessions led directly by BNPB instructors. The training included pre-tests, classroom sessions, role-playing exercises, and simulations, all conducted in person.

The learning methods were designed to ensure that participants not only understood disaster mitigation concepts but could also apply their newly acquired skills in real-life situations.

Through the training, UT expects participants to become facilitators capable of educating their respective communities about the importance of disaster preparedness and risk reduction. The cadres are also expected to strengthen disaster awareness at the village level and help build communities that are more resilient, self-reliant, and prepared for various disaster threats.

The KATANA Training of Trainers reflects UT's commitment as part of Astra Group to creating added value for communities through sustainable social responsibility programs. Together with stakeholders, UT said it will continue supporting community capacity-building efforts to help create safer, more resilient, and sustainable environments.
