Astra Launches Public Transport Campaign to Support Greener Jakarta
Jakarta. In celebration of World Environment Day, Astra has launched the “Astra People, Let’s Ride Public Transport Jakarta (Insan Astra Ayo Naik Transum Jakarta)” program, reaffirming its commitment to supporting a greener, more sustainable, and inclusive capital city.
The initiative was officially introduced at Menara Astra on Friday in the presence of Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung and officials from the Jakarta Provincial Government, alongside Astra President Director Rudy, members of Astra’s Board of Directors, senior executives, and Astra employees.
Governor Pramono welcomed the initiative, praising Astra for taking an active role in encouraging the use of public transportation.
"I appreciate Astra as a company with a long history and significant contributions to Indonesia for joining this campaign to promote public transportation in Jakarta. I hope this initiative creates a positive impact and inspires other companies to help foster a stronger public transport culture in the city," he said.
Astra President Director Rudy said the program reflects the company's commitment to supporting Jakarta's transformation while strengthening collaboration with stakeholders.
"Through the ‘Astra People, Let’s Ride Public Transport Jakarta’ program, Astra aims to encourage the use of public transportation while contributing to the development of mobility solutions that are relevant to society. We hope this collaboration will deliver broader benefits in line with Astra’s aspiration of Prospering with the Nation," he said.
Encouraging Sustainable Commuting
The program is designed specifically for Astra employees, encouraging them to use public transportation for their daily commute to and from work. Participants can enjoy cashback incentives through the AstraPay application, which is integrated with Jakarta’s major public transit services, including TransJakarta and MRT Jakarta.
The initiative builds on Astra’s longstanding support for urban mobility. The company has collaborated with Indonesian artists to create public art installations displayed at Bundaran HI Astra TransJakarta Station, Menara Astra TransJakarta Station, and Setiabudi Astra MRT Station, enriching the commuting experience for thousands of daily passengers.
Sustainability at the Core
The launch also reflects Astra’s commitment to its corporate philosophy, Catur Dharma, which serves as the foundation for the company’s business operations and contributions to Indonesia.
Today, Astra’s ecosystem supports more than one million jobs, empowers over 50,000 local business partners, operates through 322 subsidiaries, and is backed by more than 190,000 Astra employees.
In 2022, Astra introduced its Astra 2030 Sustainability Aspirations, a roadmap comprising ten key goals, including reducing greenhouse gas emissions, increasing renewable energy use in operations, lowering water consumption intensity, improving solid waste recycling, and expanding community empowerment programs.
Empowering Communities Across Indonesia
One of Astra’s flagship sustainability initiatives is the Desa Sejahtera Astra (Prosperous Village Astra) program, which focuses on four pillars: healthcare, education, environmental conservation, and entrepreneurship.
Through the program, Astra helps strengthen local economies, improve access to education and healthcare, and promote environmental preservation to enhance village self-reliance.
To date, Astra has supported more than 1,500 Prosperous Villages across 35 provinces, benefiting over three million people. Products developed by these communities have also reached international markets, generating export valuations totaling Rp 411 billion.
In Jakarta alone, Astra has partnered with local communities, including those in the Thousand Islands, supported 21 Climate Village Program locations in collaboration with Indonesia’s Ministry of Environment, planted more than one million trees, developed waste bank initiatives, assisted hundreds of schools and dozens of small and medium-sized enterprises, and contributed to the development and revitalization of public spaces.
Through these initiatives, Astra continues to work hand in hand with the Jakarta Provincial Government to support sustainable urban development and improve quality of life, while contributing to Indonesia’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and advancing its vision of “Prospering with the Nation.”
