Soekarno-Hatta Airport Ramps Up Operations for Eid Travel
Tangerang. Indonesia’s busiest airport is preparing for the annual Eid al-Fitr travel surge, with state-owned operator Angkasa Pura Indonesia (InJourney Airports) enhancing operations to handle higher passenger traffic during the 2026 holiday period.
Management of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport expects the airport to be the country’s busiest departure and arrival hub during the Eid travel period, with an estimated 2.13 million departing passengers and 1.05 million arriving passengers. Daily traffic is projected to reach around 160,979 passengers and 1,124 flights.
“We have carried out comprehensive preparations in terms of operations, facilities, and personnel to anticipate the increase in passenger movement during the 2026 Eid travel period,” said Heru Karyadi, general manager of Soekarno-Hatta Airport, in a statement on Tuesday.
To support the anticipated increase in traffic, the airport has prepared 7,832 operational personnel, covering operational, service, and technical roles. About 2,197 staff members will be on duty during each shift to ensure smooth airport operations and maintain service standards.
On the airside, the airport said all key infrastructure is fully operational, including three runways, 175 aircraft parking stands, and 115 aviobridges, which will support aircraft movements during the holiday period.
Passenger facilities have also been reinforced, including the availability of baggage and cabin trolleys as well as optimized inter-terminal transportation services such as the Skytrain and shuttle buses to help travelers move more easily within the airport complex.
Airport management has also conducted electrical system tests, including load testing for backup generators, to ensure power supply reliability in the event of disruptions to the main electricity network.
Security and safety measures have also been strengthened through random vehicle inspections in terminal areas to ensure all operational activities remain secure.
Ground transportation services will also be expanded, with multiple travel options available for passengers traveling to and from the airport. These include airport buses, AJAP shuttle services, ride-hailing services, and regular taxis, with additional vehicles prepared to accommodate increased passenger demand.
Rail operator KAI Bandara will provide 637,000 seats for airport rail services during the Eid travel season, operating intensively from March 11 to April 1, 2026.
Meanwhile, city bus operator TransJakarta plans to launch a Blok M–Soekarno-Hatta Airport route ahead of the Eid holiday to improve access for travelers heading to the airport.
Airport management has also prepared contingency plans to mitigate potential disruptions, including extreme weather. Measures include expanding drainage capacity, installing real-time water level monitoring systems, and normalizing water channels in several areas of the airport.
