Rejang Lebong Regent Named Corruption Suspect in KPK Investigation
Jakarta. The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) on Tuesday named Rejang Lebong Regent Muhammad Fikri Thobari of Bengkulu Province a suspect in an alleged bribery scheme related to regional government projects.
Fikri is the fourth regional leader to be arrested and charged by the KPK this year.
KPK Deputy Chairman Johanis Tanak said the case involves a total of five suspects. However, he declined to reveal the identities of the other suspects ahead of an official announcement scheduled for Wednesday.
Fikri and 13 other individuals were detained during separate operations in Rejang Lebong Regency and Bengkulu City on Monday night.
In addition to Fikri, investigators also detained Deputy Regent Hendri Praja, three officials from the Rejang Lebong regency administration, and four businesspeople. Authorities also seized communication devices and cash, although the amount has not yet been disclosed.
Earlier this year, the KPK arrested Madiun Mayor Maidi, Pati Regent Sudewo, and Pekalongan Regent Fadia Arafiq in separate corruption cases.
