Jakarta. Pemalang Regent Anom Widiyantoro has become the 12th regional leader arrested by Indonesia's Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) this year, as the anti-graft agency continues its crackdown on corruption in local governments.

KPK Deputy Chairman Fitroh Rohcahyanto confirmed Anom's arrest when contacted by reporters on Wednesday morning but declined to disclose the alleged corruption case or the charges being investigated.

Local media reported that KPK investigators sealed the Pemalang Public Works Office and a private residence in connection with the investigation.

Anom is also the second Pemalang regent to be arrested by the KPK in recent years. His predecessor, Mukti Agung Wibowo, was arrested in August 2022 and was later sentenced to 6½ years in prison on corruption charges.
