KPK Names Summarecon CEO, Director General among Eight Corruption Suspects
Jakarta. Indonesia's Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) on Tuesday named eight suspects, including a senior Agrarian Affairs Ministry official and the president director of property developer Summarecon Agung, in a corruption investigation involving the processing of building-use rights in Bogor Regency.
The suspects were among 17 people detained in separate KPK operations across Greater Jakarta on Monday. Investigators also seized dozens of suitcases and containers filled with cash in rupiah and foreign currencies, with the total estimated at hundreds of billions of rupiah.
Those named as suspects are:
- PT Summarecon Agung President Director Adrianto Pitojo Adhi;
- Bogor Regency Land Office Head Sontang Coin Manurung;
- Golkar Party politician Fahd El Fouz Arafiq;
- former Kebumen Regent Arif Sugianto;
- Land and Spatial Control and Enforcement Director General Lampri;
- Muhammad Fakhri;
- Erwin; and
- Rizal Pahlefi.
Golkar Party politician Fahd El Fouz Arafiq has previously been convicted in two separate corruption cases and served prison sentences in both.
His previous convictions involved bribing a member of the House of Representatives and corruption in the procurement of Qurans and computers at the Religious Affairs Ministry.
Fahd is the older brother of Pekalongan Regent Fadia Arafiq, who is currently standing trial as a defendant in a separate corruption case.
Local media reports said the last three names on the list are close allies of Agrarian Minister Nusron Wahid.
KPK spokesman Budi Prasetyo said investigators recovered around 20 suitcases as well as boxes and cardboard containers holding cash in multiple currencies during the operation.
“During the investigation, the team secured evidence including cash in rupiah and foreign currencies packed in boxes, cardboard containers and suitcases, totaling around 20 suitcases,” Budi said in Jakarta.
“The counting process is still underway, and the estimated amount reaches hundreds of billions of rupiah.”
KPK has yet to announce a final figure for the seized cash.
Budi said the eight were named suspects after KPK leaders conducted a case review and decided to open a formal corruption investigation.
The case centers on the alleged improper handling of building-use rights, known in Indonesia as Hak Guna Bangunan (HGB), in Bogor Regency.
KPK had initially detained and questioned 17 people following Monday's operations. Nine were subsequently released after investigators determined their legal status.
Further details about the alleged scheme, including the respective roles of the eight suspects and the connection between the seized money and the building-use rights process, have yet to be fully disclosed by investigators.
