KPK Detains 17 in Greater Jakarta, Including Senior Land Officials
Jakarta. The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) detained 17 people, including several senior National Land Agency officials, in a series of operations across Greater Jakarta on Monday, the agency said.
Among those detained were a director general at the Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning Ministry, the head of the Bogor Regency Land Office and the head of the Tangerang City Land Office, KPK spokesman Budi Prasetyo said in Jakarta.
Budi said the 17 people were undergoing intensive questioning and that investigators have 24 hours to determine their legal status, including whether any will be named suspects.
KPK has yet to disclose the alleged corruption scheme at the center of the investigation or specify the roles of those detained.
“We will provide another update on the details of the case and the chronology of the operation because questioning will continue tonight before their legal status is determined,” Budi said.
He did not elaborate on the suspected corruption case that prompted the operations.
Budi said the investigation remained at an early stage and that KPK investigators would conduct a case review to determine whether there was sufficient evidence of a criminal offense and whether any of those detained should be named suspects.
Under Indonesian procedure for such operations, KPK has 24 hours following the detention to determine the legal status of those taken into custody.
