Jakarta. President-elect Prabowo Subianto revealed on Sunday night that he had recently undergone major surgery for his left leg injury, just a few months before his inauguration.

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo also visited Prabowo at the hospital following the operation.

In an Instagram post, Prabowo announced that the surgery was a success.

The former army general said that he was getting treated for a leg injury which he got back in his military days. The operation took place at Jakarta’s Soedirman National Defense Central Hospital a week ago.

“I had two parachuting accidents when I was in the military back in the 1980s. I injured my left leg, and I could still feel the pain,” Prabowo wrote.

“I’m aware that these medical procedures were risky and life-threatening. But I told myself that this was all for the sake of this country and nation,” Prabowo said, while adding that he trusted the medical team.

Prabowo also thanked Jokowi “for the prayers and moral support”.

Jokowi asked the public to pray for his successor in a separate social media post.

“Let us pray for the recovery process for Mr. Prabowo who had just had a major surgery. Praise be to God, he will be more ready to serve the Indonesian people,” Jokowi wrote.

Prabowo is set to succeed Jokowi this October.
