Jakarta. Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) executives Pramono Anung and Rano Karno will officially submit their candidacies for the Jakarta gubernatorial election before noon on Wednesday, a party official confirmed.

PDI-P, the last major party yet to formalize its candidate for Jakarta, has selected Pramono as its gubernatorial candidate with Rano as his running mate, according to PDI-P Chief Treasurer Olly Dondokambey.

“Mr. Pramono and Mr. Rano Karno will register with the General Election Commission at 11 a.m. tomorrow,” Olly told reporters at the PDI-P headquarters in Jakarta.

In a departure from previous announcements, PDI-P Chairwoman Megawati Soekarnoputri will not address the media for the nomination. “There will be no official announcement. Just be at the registration site tomorrow,” Olly advised journalists.

In preparation for his candidacy, Pramono has requested a criminal record check from the South Jakarta District Court to confirm that he has no criminal convictions, as required for all candidates.

Pramono Anung is a senior PDI-P figure currently serving as Cabinet Secretary under President Joko Widodo. Rano, a former actor and film director, entered politics in 2008 as the deputy regent of Tangerang before advancing to become vice governor and then governor of Banten Province. He most recently secured a seat in the House of Representatives and will be inaugurated in October.

PDI-P has yet to announce gubernatorial candidates for East and West Java. Social Affairs Minister Tri Rismaharini is a likely nominee for East Java, according to PDI-P executive Said Abdullah.
