Jakarta. The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) is open to joining the upcoming government led by President-elect Prabowo Subianto and Vice President-elect Gibran Rakabuming Raka, according to the party's Political Affairs Chair, Puan Maharani.

"There’s nothing impossible about PDI-P joining Prabowo’s government," Puan said on Tuesday at the parliament building in Jakarta.

She added that communication between the two parties has been ongoing since the election, and a meeting between PDI-P Chair Megawati Soekarnoputri and Prabowo is in the works, though a date has yet to be set.

"We're working to arrange it as soon as possible," Puan said, noting that she has already met with Prabowo several times to discuss future cooperation.

PDI-P Still Undecided About Joining Prabowo’s Government

The Great Indonesia Movement (Gerindra) Party's Secretary-General, Ahmad Muzani, has also expressed hope that PDI-P will support the Prabowo-Gibran administration, believing that a united political front would lead to a more effective government.

"We want the Prabowo-Gibran administration to run smoothly and promote unity," Muzani said, acknowledging that while there are different approaches, the ultimate goals of both parties align.

However, political analyst Adi Prayitno of Indonesia's Parameter Politics warned that an administration without opposition could undermine democracy. He highlighted that without opposition, there would be a lack of checks and balances, potentially neglecting public interests.

"Without opposition, critical voices may need to come from outside the parliament, including activists, students, and the general public," Adi said, stressing the importance of maintaining a balance of power to safeguard democracy.
