Prabowo Departs Ministerial Briefing, Sparking Rumors of Megawati Meeting
Jakarta. President-elect Prabowo Subianto was seen leaving his residence in Hambalang, Bogor, West Java, on Thursday, as a briefing event for potential ministers was still underway. His departure sparked speculation about an imminent meeting with Megawati Soekarnoputri, Chairwoman of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P).
Hashim Djojohadikusumo, Deputy Chairman of the Gerindra Party’s Board of Trustees and Prabowo's brother, hinted that Prabowo was ready for the meeting, which had been eagerly anticipated for years. He suggested that the timing of the meeting was now dependent on Megawati’s agreement.
“Mr. Prabowo has been waiting for two years. It's up to Megawati now,” Hashim said in Central Jakarta on Thursday.
The long-awaited meeting is rumored to coincide with Prabowo’s 73rd birthday. However, the exact location of the meeting remains unknown
Earlier this week, PDI-P politician Pramono Anung visited Prabowo as he was conducting interviews for cabinet positions. PDI-P later clarified that Pramono's visit was on behalf of Megawati Soekarnoputri.
Prabowo has expressed a desire to form a broad-based government, supported by all major political parties in parliament. PDI-P is the only significant party that has not yet joined the pro-government coalition. Notably, none of the 108 candidates interviewed so far for ministerial and vice-ministerial roles in Prabowo’s upcoming cabinet have been from PDI-P.
