Jakarta. President Prabowo Subianto has approved the appointment of senior prosecutor Kuntadi as Indonesia's Attorney General for Special Crimes, replacing Febrie Adriansyah, who is under investigation as a corruption suspect in a case that has shaken the country's law enforcement establishment.

State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi said on Wednesday that Kuntadi's appointment was included in a presidential decree covering several senior positions within the Attorney General's Office.

Under the reshuffle, Asep Nana Mulyana was appointed Deputy Attorney General, Leonard Eben Ezer Simanjuntak became Attorney General for General Crimes, and Kuntadi was named Attorney General for Special Crimes, the division responsible for handling major corruption investigations.

Prabowo also appointed Harley Siregar as head of the Attorney General's Office Education and Training Agency and Patris Yusrian Jaya as head of its Asset Recovery Agency.

Kuntadi takes over one of the country's most powerful prosecutorial posts after Febrie was named a corruption suspect earlier this month.

Police investigators alleged they discovered 74 kilograms (163 pounds) of gold bars and cash worth millions of US dollars concealed in a hidden compartment at one of Febrie's homes in Bogor, West Java, during coordinated searches at 12 locations.

The searches were carried out as part of investigations into three alleged corruption cases involving coal procurement for state electricity utility PLN, debt-related transactions at state-owned steelmaker Krakatau Steel, and the alleged embezzlement of funds at state-owned insurer Asabri.

Police have also named businessman and lawyer Don Ritto as a suspect in the same investigation. Don Ritto has been detained pending further legal proceedings, while Febrie has not been taken into custody.
