No Opposition? PDI-P Politician Claims Party Will Support Prabowo's Administration
Jakarta. Indonesia Democratic Party of Struggle's (PDI-P) Treasurer, Olly Dondokambey, claimed that the party will support the upcoming Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka administration, potentially leaving no opposition in parliament.
According to Olly, party chairwoman Megawati Soekarnoputri believes Indonesia does not operate under a strict opposition-coalition system, signaling PDI-P's readiness to collaborate with Prabowo.
"The cooperation is already in place, and as Madam Megawati said, we don't recognize opposition. We will work together and assist Mr. Prabowo in running the government," Olly told reporters on Monday.
PDI-P remains the only major party from the previous administration yet to formally announce its stance on joining Prabowo's government, after previously nominating his rival, Ganjar Pranowo, in the February election. While Prabowo has secured a large alliance known as the Advanced Indonesia Coalition (KIM), questions linger over PDI-P’s potential cabinet role.
Olly noted that support is inevitable as Megawati's daughter, Puan Maharani, currently serves as the Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR), a position vital for pushing government programs forward. However, he said that the decision on cabinet positions will be made between Megawati and Prabowo ahead of the new administration’s inauguration.
"Cabinet matters are not my concern; that’s up to Mr. Prabowo and whether he requests recommendations from Ibu," Olly concluded.
Puan Maharani has hinted at a possible meeting between Megawati and Prabowo on multiple occasions. She did not confirm or deny whether they would discuss the potential for PDI-P to join the KIM coalition, instead advising reporters to wait and see the outcome of the meeting. Puan mentioned that the talks would happen "as soon as possible."
Prabowo will be inaugurated as the next president on Oct. 20.
