Jakarta. Jakarta Police handed over more than 300 people suspected of being involved in isolated riots in Jakarta in May to state prosecutors on Friday, after the Jakarta Prosecutors' Office decided to accept 106 cases against them.

"A total of 106 case dossiers that we submitted to the Jakarta Prosecutors' Office have been accepted. Today, we handed over the suspects to the prosecutors to begin their legal process," Jakarta Police spokesman Chief Comr. Argo Yuwono said.

A total of 334 riot suspects were handed over to the state prosecutors at the Jakarta Police headquarters on Friday. All of them are still being remanded in custody by the police.

The riots in parts of Central and West Jakarta on May 21-23 began when street demonstrations by Prabowo Subianto's supporters to try to overturn the result of the election turned violent.

Nine people were killed during the riots but police are still struggling to find their killers.

People thought to be "intellectual actors" behind the riots were arrested by the police. Some have been released on bail, including former Army Special Forces commander Sunarko.
