Jakarta. President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has just voted for his successor at a polling station in Gambir, Central Jakarta.

Jokowi, however, did not say much on whether the 2024 election could finish in one round. Past polls have put candidate Prabowo Subianto, whose running mate is Gibran Rakabuming Raka, as the frontrunner. But the question of whether Indonesia will only witness a one-round election lingers.

“Let’s just wait for the results together,” Jokowi told reporters when asked to comment on the possibility of a one-round election.

Jokowi admitted that he had not spoken to his son Gibran before the voting. He added: “No, not yet.”

“We call this democratic process a party, hopefully, this will truly be a party for all Indonesians,” Jokowi said, while hoping for a fair election process.

Prabowo, who currently serves as the defense minister, is running against former Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan and former Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo. To secure a one-round victory, a candidate must gain over 50 percent of the overall votes. They also need at least 20 percent of the votes in half of Indonesia's 38 provinces.
