Jakarta. Indonesia’s Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) had a blunt message for local government officials this week: be careful what you do on your phones -- especially if it involves sensitive or inappropriate content.

Speaking at a corruption prevention meeting in North Jakarta on Thursday, KPK Deputy Chairman Johanis Tanak told regional leaders that the agency has advanced surveillance technology capable of monitoring phone activity, including spotting pornography.

“Our telecom tech is more sophisticated than what government officials are using,” Johanis said. “Whatever number you’re using, our system can monitor it. If there’s any porn content, it will be detected.”

The warning wasn’t just about embarrassing behavior; Johanis stressed that as long as officials stick to clean governance and avoid corrupt practices, they have nothing to worry about.

“If you’re doing the right thing, there’s no need to be concerned. But if you step out of line, KPK will take action -- and it won’t be the kind you’re hoping for,” he said.

The meeting gathered governors from across the country, including Banten’s Andra Soni, Lampung’s Rahmat Mirzani, Bangka Belitung’s Hidayat Arsani, South Sumatra’s Herman Deru, and West Java’s Dedi Mulyadi.

While the atmosphere was formal, Johanis’ warning added a candid note -- reminding officials that in today’s Indonesia, the anti-corruption watchdog is not only watching financial transactions but is also fully plugged into the digital age.
