Jakarta. Coach Shin Tae-yong has officially announced the extension of his contract with the Indonesia national football team.

"We have agreed to continue our fight together so that the Indonesian National Team continues to progress, achieve success, and make a mark on the world stage," Shin Tae-yong wrote on his official social media page on Friday.

The contract is rumored to run until 2027.

Shin Tae-yong, who replaced Simon McMenemy as the Garuda squad's tactician on December 28, 2019, was previously awarded a four-year contract.

Despite encountering some less satisfactory results, including elimination in the second round of the 2022 World Cup Qualifiers, the former South Korean coach has gradually demonstrated significant improvement through his tactical acumen.

Under Shin's guidance, the Garuda squad made their first appearance at the 2023 Asian Cup, ending a 16-year absence. Shin also led Marselino Ferdinan and his teammates to the Round of 16 in the 2023 Asian Cup, where they showed composure on the big stage.

Additionally, the 54-year-old coach guided the Young Garuda squad to their inaugural semifinal appearance in the 2024 AFC U-23 Championship, although they narrowly missed securing a spot in the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Shin has also elevated Indonesia to the 134th position in the FIFA rankings, the country's highest ranking since his tenure began.

Overall, with the Indonesia national team, Shin Tae-yong has overseen 33 matches, recording 17 wins, eight draws, and eight losses, with a winning percentage of 51.52 percent.
