'Either You’re With Us or Watch Us Working': Prabowo
Jakarta. President-elect Prabowo Subianto has urged all political elites to collaborate with his forthcoming government or observe quietly from the sidelines as he seeks to forge a broad coalition spanning across the entire political spectrum.
His message was delivered on Thursday during a gathering with executives of the National Mandate Party (PAN), a crucial ally in the Advanced Indonesia Coalition that supported his presidential campaign.
"I will persist in my endeavors with all those willing to cooperate. For those who choose not to, that is acceptable to me. But please, be respectful spectators," Prabowo said, emphasizing that his government's primary focus will be on the welfare of the people and the protection of national assets.
"I have been elected by the people. Day and night, we must contemplate ways to ensure that the Indonesian people do not suffer from hunger," he added.
Prabowo acknowledged that within every political party, including his own Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra), there are elements that are not genuinely committed to serving the people.
"Let us recognize this issue. Even within Gerindra, there are individuals we cannot rely on," Prabowo admitted.
Prabowo's incoming government has garnered support from seven incumbent parties, including three from rival coalitions.
The remaining two parties, the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) and the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), have yet to determine whether they will align with his government or adopt an opposition stance.
Prabowo is scheduled to be inaugurated as Indonesia's eighth president on October 20.
