Jakarta. Heavy rain that washed Bogor, West Java, on Monday night caused the Katulampa Dam water level to rise to alert level III, triggering flooding in parts of South Jakarta early Tuesday.

Dozens of homes along the Ciliwung River in Pejaten Timur, Pasar Minggu, were inundated by up to two meters of water, forcing residents to evacuate valuables and motorcycles to higher ground.

On-site observation by Beritasatu.com showed residents wading through water as they moved household goods to safer areas. Some residents said the water began rising around midnight after hours of heavy rain in the Bogor area.

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) forecast that rain will continue across Jakarta throughout Tuesday, with light showers and thunderstorms expected from morning to evening.

According to BMKG’s official website, cloudy conditions are expected in most parts of the capital, including Central, South, East, West, and North Jakarta, during the morning, while light rain may occur in the Kepulauan Seribu area.

By afternoon, South and East Jakarta could see thunderstorms, while light rain is expected to persist in other areas of the city. The evening forecast predicts light rain in most parts of Jakarta, except for Central Jakarta and the Thousand Islands, which may see partly cloudy skies.

Temperatures in the city are expected to range between 18 and 30 degrees Celsius in the morning, 22 to 29 degrees during the day, and 19 to 28 degrees at night.

Officials warned residents living along the Ciliwung River to remain alert, as upstream rainfall in Bogor often raises flood risks in downstream Jakarta. The Katulampa Dam, which serves as an early warning system for flooding in the capital, reached the alert III threshold at around 8 p.m. Monday.
