Cabinet Formation Underway as Prabowo Meets Potential Ministers
Jakarta. President-elect Prabowo Subianto, set to serve for the 2024-2029 term, has begun summoning ministerial candidates to join his cabinet. The candidates have been invited to Prabowo's residence on Jalan Kertanegara 4, South Jakarta.
Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, the Gerindra Party’s Daily Chair, said the candidates will meet directly with Prabowo, but the final decision on the ministers in the Prabowo-Gibran administration will be made after the meetings. "Candidates who previously agreed to serve have been invited; finalization will follow the meetings," Sufmi said on Monday.
Sufmi added that the invitation process will continue over the next two days.
Prabowo previously noted that the fit and proper tests for ministerial candidates had been ongoing for some time. Coalition party leaders have submitted several names to fill ministerial positions.
As of Monday afternoon, Prabowo had met with several figures, including Social Minister Saifullah Yusuf, Golkar politician Nusron Wahid, State Secretary Pratikno, PAN politician Yandri Susanto, former Batang Regent Wihaji, Gerindra politicians Maruarar Sirait and Fadli Zon, PKB’s Abdul Kadir Karding, and the Democrat Party’s Teuku Riefky Harsya. These meetings are believed to focus on assessing the candidates' readiness to serve.
Prabowo is expected to announce his cabinet shortly after his inauguration as Indonesia’s 8th president on Oct. 20.
Reports suggest the cabinet will consist of 46 ministries, including 41 sectoral ministries and five coordinating ministries. New ministries include the Forestry Ministry, Public Housing Ministry, Transmigration Ministry, Creative Economy Ministry, Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) Ministry, and Population and Family Development Ministry.
Other proposed ministries include the Migrant Worker Protection Ministry, Higher Education Ministry, Culture Ministry, Human Rights Ministry, and Immigration Ministry. A new coordinating ministry focused on social affairs is also expected.
