Blinken Celebrates Indonesia's Independence Day, Welcomes New President Prabowo Subianto
Jakarta. Antony J. Blinken, Secretary of State of the United States, extended congratulations to Indonesia on its 79th Independence Day.
In his statement, Blinken highlighted the 75-year milestone of US-Indonesia relations, underscoring the commitment of both nations to democracy, the rule of law, and mutual friendship. The past year has seen a significant enhancement of ties, with Presidents Jokowi and Biden establishing a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in November.
Blinken also congratulated Minister Prabowo Subianto on his election as Indonesia's next president and expressed anticipation for future collaboration. Key areas of focus will include strengthening peace and security in the Indo-Pacific, addressing the climate crisis and advancing clean energy, promoting sustainable development, protecting human rights, and supporting Indonesia’s digital transformation.
"Both bilaterally and through our engagement with ASEAN, the United States will continue to partner with Indonesia to promote stability and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region," Blinken said in a statement.
In closing, Blinken extended best wishes to the Indonesian people on their Independence Day.
