21 World Leaders to Attend Prabowo-Gibran Inauguration
Jakarta. Ahmad Muzani, Chairman of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) and Secretary General of the Gerindra Party, announced that 21 heads of state are expected to attend the inauguration of Indonesia’s President-elect Prabowo Subianto and Vice President-elect Gibran Rakabuming Raka on Oct. 20.
“As of now, we have confirmed the attendance of 18 heads of state, and three more recently, bringing the total to 21 leaders who will witness the inauguration on Oct. 20,” Muzani said during an investment forum at the Nusantara Capital City (IKN) on Friday.
He did not provide details on the specific leaders attending.
Muzani emphasized that the presence of these world leaders at the Prabowo-Gibran inauguration is both a privilege and an honor for Indonesia. "This is extraordinary, not only for the political parties in parliament but for the entire Indonesian nation," he said.
Despite the dynamics of the 2024 presidential election, Muzani noted that political stability in the House of Representatives (DPR) remains intact. "I do not see any critical factors that could destabilize the DPR at this time," he added.
Ahead of the inauguration, Muzani stressed the importance of maintaining a peaceful atmosphere. "All political parties now understand the need to preserve a calm and stable environment in front of the international community," he concluded.
Prabowo, who serves as defense minister and ran with President Joko Widodo’s eldest son, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, as his vice-presidential candidate, won 58.59 percent of the vote in the February presidential election.
His decisive victory was underscored by leading in 36 of 38 provinces. Prabowo only lost in Aceh and West Sumatra to his closest rival, Anies Baswedan.
The General Elections Commission (KPU) reported that 164.2 million legitimate votes were cast from registered voters across 38 provinces and 128 Indonesian overseas missions.
