Prabowo Names His Team, Should He Be Elected President
Jakarta. Presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto has announced the names of his potential team to help him address the problems he deems plaguing Indonesia, such as wealth flowing out of the country, inequality, injustice, climate change and rising prices of food, energy and clean water.
"We want my program to achieve self-sufficiency in food, water and energy. We will meet our food, fuel and water needs," Prabowo said.
Fadli Zon, deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, Sudirman Said, a former energy and mineral resources minister, and Rocky Gerung, a philosophy lecturer who is also an outspoken critic of the current government, are among those on the list.
Prabowo also named several members of the military establishment, such as Gen. Gatot Nurmantyo, a former chief of the Indonesian Military (TNI), Syafrie Syamsuddin, a retired general and former deputy defense minister, Tedjo Edhy Purdijatno, a former Indonesian Navy chief of staff who was also coordinating minister for political, legal and security affairs in incumbent President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo's first cabinet.
Civilians on the list include Rustriningsih, a former Central Java deputy governor, Said Iqbal, a labor union leader, and Salim Said, a military expert.
Prabowo did not outright say that those on the list would become ministers in his cabinet if he wins the election.
Missing from the list are some of his key allies, including Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, the son of Democratic Party leader Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.
