Jakarta. Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry has confirmed that private gas stations will soon see a steady supply of fuel after weeks of shortages, following an agreement between private retailers and state-owned oil and gas company Pertamina.

Deputy Energy Minister Yuliot Tanjung said private operators, including Shell, BP, Vivo, and ExxonMobil, have agreed to purchase base fuel directly from Pertamina under a Business-to-Business (B2B) arrangement. “This is a business-to-business process. If it encounters obstacles, the ministry will step in to evaluate,” Yuliot said at the Green Energy Summit in Jakarta on Tuesday. He assured the public that shortages at private stations will be resolved shortly.

Yuliot explained that private fuel companies have submitted their consumption data to Pertamina, which will consolidate orders over a seven-day process. Once completed, supplies at private gas stations are expected to normalize.

Energy Minister Bahlil Lahadalia confirmed that Indonesia’s overall fuel stock is secure for the next 18–21 days. He said that private retailers will receive base fuel without additives, which they will process individually at their stations. The arrangement also includes joint inspections to ensure fuel quality and transparency in purchase pricing.

The shortages arose despite a 10 percent increase in 2025 import quotas for private fuel companies, equivalent to 7,000–44,000 kiloliters. By contrast, Pertamina’s trading subsidiary, Pertamina Patra Niaga, received a fourteenfold higher quota of 613,000 kiloliters.

“The solution is clear: private companies will collaborate with Pertamina, using base fuel, with quality checks before distribution. We aim for delivery within seven days,” Bahlil said.

Indonesia is preparing to import fuel from the United States as part of a tariff arrangement. The deal, effective Aug. 7, reduces US import tariffs on Indonesian goods from 32 percent to 19 oercent and allows Indonesia to purchase around $15 billion in liquefied petroleum gas, crude oil, and refined products from suppliers such as ExxonMobil and Chevron.
