Denpasar. The Bali provincial government has introduced three days of work-from-home arrangements and online learning from Oct. 15 to 17 as a worsening fuel shortage disrupts transportation and daily activities across the resort island.

The temporary measures, outlined in a circular issued by Bali Provincial Secretary Dewa Indra, require affected government employees to work remotely while schools and universities conduct classes online.

The policy is intended to reduce travel and fuel consumption as authorities work to restore gasoline supplies following several days of shortages.

However, employees responsible for essential public services, emergency response, and security operations must continue reporting to their workplaces.

"Units or employees providing direct public services, emergency services or security must continue performing their duties at their offices to ensure that public services and emergency or security operations can be delivered effectively," the circular said.

Fuel shortages have affected several parts of Bali since late last week, with some of the most severe disruptions reported in the provincial capital Denpasar, Badung Regency and major tourist destinations including South Kuta, Canggu and Ubud.

Long queues at gas stations have disrupted motorists as fuel supplies struggle to keep pace with demand.

State energy company Pertamina has begun sending additional gasoline shipments to Bali and instructed dozens of gas stations to operate around the clock until fuel distribution returns to normal.

Pertamina Patra Niaga, the company's fuel distribution subsidiary, previously announced plans to deliver approximately 57.9 million liters of gasoline to Bali between Oct. 14 and 17.

The scheduled shipments comprise 44.9 million liters of Pertalite and 13 million liters of Pertamax, with deliveries routed through the island's fuel terminals.

Pertamina has also reinforced its distribution operations by deploying additional fuel trucks and drivers, including personnel and vehicles brought in from East Java.

The temporary remote work and online learning arrangements are scheduled to remain in effect through Saturday, Oct. 17.
