Paris. State-Owned Enterprises Minister Erick Thohir met with TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew and YouTube CEO Neal Mohan to discuss the potential of Indonesia's digital economy, which is projected to reach Rp 4,500 trillion by 2030.

"I spoke about the potential of Indonesia's digital economy reaching IDR 4,500 trillion, making it the largest in Southeast Asia," Thohir said, as quoted from his personal Instagram account on Saturday.

The meeting took place during a dinner at the Louvre Museum in France. Thohir mentioned that both Mohan and Chew believe in Indonesia's digital economy potential and expressed their readiness to support its development.

"They are prepared to promote local creators while preserving Indonesia's positive culture worldwide," he said.

In addition to his meetings with Mohan and Chew, Thohir also met with Muhammad Yunus, founder of Grameen Bank, and Lakshmi Mittal, owner of the world's second-largest steel plant, during a dinner with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) at the same location.

Thohir noted that Grameen Bank, founded by Yunus, aims to provide small-scale loans to micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) that cannot borrow from commercial banks.

"This concept has inspired the PNM Mekaar program in Indonesia, which currently has 15.2 million customers," he said.

Minister Erick Thohir, who is also a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), visited France in connection with the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympics.

During his visit, Thohir took the opportunity to meet FIFA President Gianni Infantino, and French President Emmanuel Macron, and attended the 142nd IOC meeting in Paris, France.

The Directorate General of Taxes (DJP) of the Ministry of Finance (Kemenkeu) recorded revenue from the digital economy sector at Rp 24.99 trillion as of May 30.

This amount comes from the collection of value-added tax (VAT) from technology companies operating in Indonesia, such as ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, and Google, the parent company of YouTube, amounting to Rp 20.15 trillion, cryptocurrency tax of Rp746.16 billion, and fintech (P2P lending) tax of Rp2.11 trillion.
