Jakarta. The Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS) 2024, held at JIExpo Kemayoran in Central Jakarta from Feb. 15 to 25, served as a platform for automotive manufacturers to showcase their latest electric vehicles. Over the 11-day exhibition, several renowned brands took the opportunity to unveil their cutting-edge electric models, setting the stage for a green automotive future. Here's a roundup of the latest electric vehicles that stole the spotlight at IIMS 2024:

1. BYD Seal: Chinese Innovation in Electric Mobility
Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer, Build Your Dream (BYD), debuted the BYD Seal at IIMS 2024, positioning it as an affordable newcomer in the electric vehicle market. Priced between Rp 600 million ($38.476) to Rp 700 million, the BYD Seal comes in two enticing variants: Premium (Rp 629 million) and Performance (Rp 719 million).

Sporting a sedan design with dimensions of 4,800 mm x 1,875 mm x 1,460 mm, the BYD Seal adopts the e-platform BYD and features CTB (cell-to-body technology). Performance-wise, the BYD Seal accelerates from 0-100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds and offers an impressive range of 520 kilometers per charge, with the Premium variant reaching an outstanding 570 kilometers.

2. Wuling Cloud EV: Spacious and Inspired
Wuling Motors showcased its first electric vehicle, the Cloud EV, at IIMS 2024, boasting a spacious cabin within the medium hatchback segment. Inspired by the elegant curves and shapes of clouds (Cloud Shaped Design), the official pricing for the Cloud EV is yet to be announced.

With a full-charge range of 460 km to 505 km, the Cloud EV promises a comfortable and eco-friendly driving experience, although detailed powertrain specifications are still pending.

3. Mitsubishi L100EV: Local Production and Sustainable Transport
Since late 2023, the Mitsubishi L100EV has been locally produced at the Mitsubishi Motors plant in Bekasi, making Indonesia the first country outside Japan to manufacture this light commercial electric vehicle (kei-car class).

Equipped with battery-based components, including a motor and driving battery, the L100EV offers a travel range of 180 km per charge in WLTC2 mode. Charging times are approximately 7.5 hours for a full charge on AC200V (15A) and about 42 minutes for an 80% charge. The L100EV is available in a Two-Seaters Blind Van variant, priced at Rp 320 million in Jakarta (Feb-Apr 2024).

4. VinFast VF5: Vietnam's Electric Pioneer Enters Indonesia
Vietnamese electric vehicle manufacturer, VinFast, made its official entry into the Indonesian market at IIMS 2024, unveiling the VinFast VF5. With dimensions of 3,967 mm x 1,723 mm x 1,578 mm and a wheelbase of 2,514 mm, the VF5 offers a ground clearance of 168 mm.
Powered by a 134 HP electric motor and a 31.18 kWh battery, the VF5 can travel up to 300 km, with a fast-charging capability from 10 percent to 70 percent in just 30 minutes.

While priced at Rp 289 million in Vietnam, the anticipated price in Indonesia is around Rp 300 million, making it a competitive option in the electric vehicle market.
