Jakarta. President Prabowo Subianto has set a goal of building a world-class digital government, calling for integrated online public services and a unified national data system to cut red tape and improve the delivery of government assistance.

Speaking at a plenary cabinet meeting at the State Palace in Jakarta on Monday, Prabowo said Indonesia must accelerate the digital transformation of its public sector so citizens can access government services quickly and efficiently without navigating lengthy bureaucratic procedures.

"I want Indonesia to have a world-class digital government," Prabowo said.

The president said government agencies should ensure that all services that can be delivered digitally are made available online, allowing people to complete administrative processes without having to visit multiple offices or wait in long queues.

Prabowo also ordered ministries and state institutions to stop developing standalone applications that operate independently of one another, saying fragmented digital platforms create unnecessary obstacles for the public.

"We must carry out government digitalization. We cannot have dozens of applications that do not communicate with one another. We cannot ask people to repeatedly enter the same information," he said.

The push is part of the administration's broader effort to modernize Indonesia's public services, improve bureaucratic efficiency, and strengthen data-driven policymaking.

Prabowo said the government has already seen early benefits from digitizing the distribution of social assistance. According to a report from the National Economic Council (DEN), the digital system has been implemented in 43 regencies and municipalities across 26 provinces.

About one million families have been registered so far, out of a target of 12.5 million beneficiary households.

Before the digital system was introduced, applicants reportedly spent around Rp150,000 ($9) to obtain documents and complete the registration process for social assistance programs. Under the new system, those services can now be accessed free of charge.

"Now the entire process can be completed at no cost. This is a direct benefit of digitalization," Prabowo said.

Despite the progress, the president said Indonesia must move faster in integrating its various national databases. He instructed the government to connect data covering social welfare, population records, education, healthcare, employment, housing, and social assistance recipients into a single secure and interoperable platform.

According to Prabowo, better data integration will improve the accuracy of social assistance targeting, reduce duplication, and enhance the overall effectiveness of public services by ensuring government agencies rely on consistent and up-to-date information.

Indonesia has pursued digital government reforms for several years, but implementation has often been hindered by overlapping information systems developed independently by ministries and regional governments. Successive administrations have sought to improve interoperability through initiatives such as the One Data Indonesia (Satu Data Indonesia) policy, while the current government has made digital integration a key component of its broader bureaucratic reform agenda.
