Danantara Targets $30 Billion in Investment Through Asia Forum
Jakarta. Sovereign wealth fund Danantara Indonesia is targeting up to $30 billion in investment mobilization across Asia through the New Asia Forum 2026, as it seeks to attract global capital into strategic sectors and position the country as an investment destination amid shifting geopolitical dynamics.
The forum will take place in Bali on Dec. 3-4 under the patronage of President Prabowo Subianto, with Danantara serving as a founding partner. Organizers expect more than 1,000 global leaders and over 100 speakers, including SoftBank Group Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Masayoshi Son.
Danantara Chief Investment Officer Pandu Sjahrir said the event was designed to generate actual investments rather than serve solely as a platform for discussion. The agency plans to co-invest with global partners to direct capital toward strategic industries in Indonesia.
“Danantara Investment Management’s mandate is to attract private and global capital to invest alongside us in Indonesia’s strategic sectors. The New Asia Forum is a platform to make that happen,” Pandu said in Jakarta on Thursday.
Danantara plans to announce capital commitments and strategic investments during the forum, seeking to establish itself as an anchor investor capable of attracting additional private and international funding.
Pahala Mansury, Danantara’s managing director for global relations and communications, said Asia was playing an increasingly important role in global economic growth, although long-term international capital allocation to the region remained below its potential.
Against a backdrop of geopolitical shifts, Indonesia could attract investment from China, Australia, the United States and other countries seeking new destinations for their capital, Pahala said.
Digital infrastructure and artificial intelligence are among the investment priorities expected to feature at the forum. Stefanus Ade Hadiwidjaja, managing director of investment at Danantara Investment Management, said several projects, including data centers, were expected to be announced.
He said investment decisions in AI infrastructure would take into account energy and water availability. For large-scale data centers, Danantara is applying a “bring your own energy” approach intended to ensure projects secure their own power supplies without disrupting electricity access for households.
The agency is also encouraging data centers to use closed-loop systems to reduce water consumption, alongside water treatment and desalination technologies.
Beyond digital infrastructure, Danantara is developing investments in waste management and tourism-related assets. Three initial waste-to-energy projects in Bali, Bekasi and Bogor have entered the construction phase, while eight partners in the second phase have received conditional letters of award covering eight sites across 20 cities and regencies.
In the hospitality sector, Danantara Investment Management completed the acquisition of the 1,461-room Novotel Thakher Makkah on Aug. 11 and a 4.4-hectare plot in the Thakher district of Mecca on Oct. 18.
The investment manager has also partnered with JBS Group on a proposed $2.5 billion investment for a 25% stake in a joint venture covering JBS operations in Australia and New Zealand.
The forum will be divided into two stages: “Discovery & Diligence” on Dec. 3 and “Action & Execution” on Dec. 4. Organizers aim to advance preliminary investment agreements and develop financing structures capable of securing funding.
Danantara said it would monitor investment opportunities emerging from the forum to help turn commitments into projects and generate long-term economic value.
