Jakarta. The Indonesian government has said that video-sharing platform YouTube and gaming platform Roblox have yet to comply with regulations requiring a minimum user age of 16, as part of broader efforts to strengthen child protection in the digital space.

Communications and Digital Affairs Minister Meutya Hafid said on Tuesday that, of eight major platforms targeted under the policy, only YouTube and Roblox remain non-compliant with the age restrictions outlined in the government regulation.

Meutya noted that several other platforms have already committed to compliance, including X, Bigo Live, TikTok, and Meta-owned services -- Instagram, Facebook, and Threads.

“We will continue communication, both formally and informally, particularly on feature-related discussions with the two platforms that have not yet complied -- Roblox and YouTube,” Meutya said in Jakarta.

She added that enforcement of the regulation is critical given Indonesia’s large youth population, with around 70 million users under the age of 16.

The minister also warned that YouTube and Roblox have a three-month deadline to submit self-assessment reports on their risk profiles and align with the government’s requirements.

A YouTube representative said last month that the company is reviewing the regulation while maintaining its focus on child safety and access to educational content.

“YouTube is a high-quality video-sharing platform that has invested for more than a decade in child safety. We are reviewing this new regulation to ensure the policy supports our goals of empowering parents and maintaining access to learning for millions of Indonesians,” the representative said in a statement.

“We will continue constructive communication with the government and remain committed to protecting young people in the digital world, not distancing them from it,” the representative added.
