Bali Tech Week Targets 5,000 Participants From 37 Countries to Spur Digital Investment
Jakarta. The government aims to attract investment in Indonesia’s digital sector through Bali Tech Week 2026, scheduled for Oct. 19–23 in Sanur, Bali, with organizers targeting 5,000 participants from 37 countries.
The event will bring together 13 international conferences and technology programs, as Indonesia seeks to strengthen its digital infrastructure, improve regulatory certainty, and boost the competitiveness of its digital economy.
Communication and Digital Affairs Minister Meutya Hafid said the event would bring together investors and industry players while allowing the government to gather input on regulations that support long-term investment.
“The regulations we will issue won’t come as a surprise, but rather are predictable so that investors will feel comfortable,” Meutya said at a press conference on Bali Tech Week 2026.
The government also wants to ensure fair competition between foreign investors and domestic businesses, including local startups, she said.
“Our goal for this event, aside from attracting investment, is to ensure that the government is present to guarantee fair competition and, secondly, to ensure predictable regulations that are acceptable to all parties,” Meutya said.
Organizers said 1,785 people had registered for the Bali Tech Week Conference as of the press conference, below the target of 4,000 for the main conference. Including other events, total attendance is projected to reach 5,000 participants from 37 countries.
The program will cover 13 events across sectors including digital connectivity, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, game development, financial technology and data centers.
Indonesia’s digital economy was projected to reach $99 billion in 2025, growing 14% year-on-year, Meutya said, citing the e-Conomy SEA report by Google, Temasek and Bain & Company. The government hopes the sector will help support its target of 8% annual economic growth.
“Ultimately, the goal is to empower our farmers and fishermen through digitalization. It’s also about enabling the creative industry and local content creators to be even more productive thanks to the progress of the digital industry in our country,” she said.
Meutya also called for stronger public protection as digital adoption accelerates, particularly through improved cybersecurity and measures to mitigate the harmful effects of technology.
“High economic growth is meaningless if, for example, the public isn’t protected from the effects that actually harm society due to the negative excesses of digitalization,” she said.
From the industry perspective, Telkom Indonesia network director Budi Satria Dharma Purba said developing the digital ecosystem required sustained investment in infrastructure, including undersea cables, fiber-optic networks, data centers, cloud computing, and digital security.
Such investments require a stable business environment because of their long-term nature, he said. Budi expressed hope that Bali Tech Week would lead to concrete initiatives rather than merely an exchange of ideas.
“We need collaboration, both among domestic industry players and with regional industry players,” he said.
GoTo CEO Hans Patuwo said developing Indonesia’s technology ecosystem would also benefit domestic technology companies. Cooperation between the government and private sector is essential to ensure technological advances address public needs, he said.
