Jakarta. Presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto promises the Bishops’ Conference of Indonesia (KWI) a peaceful election.

Prabowo told the group that he was committed to upholding politeness to maintain national unity and integrity. 

“We commit to a polite, peaceful [political] election. I believe that regardless of what happens, what is of utmost importance is that all Indonesians remain united. And this is something that has to be started by the leaders,” Prabowo said recently.

According to Prabowo, Ignatius Cardinal Suharyo, the Jakarta archbishop, offered his advice as the election nears. Prabowo added: “I think their advice is also applicable not only to the Catholics but all Indonesians in general.”

“Thank you for this opportunity. We will always uphold the values we have always embraced, namely [the state ideology] Pancasila, the 1945 Constitution, the unitary state of the Republic of Indonesia, and Unity in Diversity,” Prabowo said.
