Sintang. Pertamina Patra Niaga has adjusted its fuel distribution routes to maintain supplies in Sintang, West Kalimantan, as falling water levels in the Kapuas River restrict access for fuel-carrying vessels to the Sintang Fuel Terminal.

The company is optimizing its backup facility in Tayan, Sanggau regency, as an alternative supply point to meet fuel demand in Sintang and surrounding areas.

Kitty Andhora, Pertamina Patra Niaga’s vice president of corporate communications, said the move was part of the company’s contingency plan to maintain distribution when its main logistics routes face disruptions.

“The falling water level of the Kapuas River has affected fuel distribution through the river. To anticipate this, Pertamina has prepared an alternative distribution route through our backup facility in Tayan. We continue to optimize this facility to ensure fuel deliveries to Sintang and surrounding areas meet local demand,” Kitty said in a statement on Monday.

At the Tayan facility, fuel can be loaded directly from vessels onto tanker trucks before being transported to gas stations according to demand and conditions on the ground. The arrangement gives Pertamina Patra Niaga greater flexibility in adjusting its distribution network while bringing supply points closer to areas in need.

The company is also monitoring water levels in the Kapuas River, fuel demand and distribution conditions on the ground. It is coordinating with local governments and relevant stakeholders to ensure deliveries remain safe, smooth and efficient.

“We understand that fuel is essential for public mobility and economic activity. Therefore, Pertamina continues to prepare and implement alternative distribution routes based on conditions on the ground to ensure public needs are met. We also urge the public to purchase fuel according to their needs and avoid excessive buying,” Kitty added.

Pertamina Patra Niaga said it remained committed to maintaining fuel availability and distribution in Sintang and other parts of West Kalimantan by optimizing available logistics alternatives, including the Tayan backup facility.
