Jakarta. Indonesian state energy company Pertamina has received a shipment of approximately 45,900 metric tons of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) from Texas, reinforcing domestic fuel supplies as the country seeks to strengthen its energy security.

Pertamina Patra Niaga spokesperson Kitty Andhora said the arrival of the tanker Pertamina Gas 1 reflects the company's commitment to maintaining a stable and sustainable LPG supply.

“The arrival of Pertamina Gas 1 and its cargo demonstrates our commitment to ensuring that LPG supplies remain secure and readily available,” Kitty said in Jakarta on Monday.

She said sourcing LPG from multiple countries forms part of Pertamina Patra Niaga's strategy to safeguard national energy supplies through an integrated supply chain covering procurement, transportation, storage, and distribution.

“Pertamina Patra Niaga continues to ensure that every stage of the supply chain -- from procurement to distribution-- is managed in an integrated manner so that the energy needs of households and productive sectors can be met,” she said.

The shipment is equivalent to roughly 15.2 million 3-kilogram LPG cylinders, Indonesia's most widely used subsidized cooking fuel.

Of the total cargo, about 26,000 metric tons will be unloaded at the Sekong LPG Terminal in Banten, while the remaining 19,900 metric tons will be delivered to the Arun LPG Terminal in Aceh before being distributed through Pertamina's nationwide supply network.

Pertamina Gas 1 departed Freeport, Texas, on May 29 and completed its trans-Pacific voyage on schedule to support Indonesia's domestic energy requirements.

The shipment comes as Indonesia expands energy imports from the United States under a bilateral supply agreement reached last year during negotiations over US trade tariffs. Under the agreement, Indonesia plans to purchase approximately $15 billion worth of US liquefied petroleum gas, crude oil, and refined petroleum products.
