Jakarta. State-owned pawnbroker Pegadaian announced Saturday that it had distributed 913 sacrificial animals, including 212 cows and 701 goats, for Eid al-Adha.

The rollout is part of the company's corporate social responsibility program.

Pegadaian had distributed the livestock evenly via its head office and regional units, as well as its partner ecosystems including its waste banks and some Islamic boarding schools. By involving the waste banks, Pegadaian hopes that the distribution can bring added value to environmental partnerships and empower local communities.

"This is an annual event as our way of expressing gratitude for the company's achievements in its operations and commitment to always being present for the community," Pegadaian's director for networks and operations Eka Pebriansyah was quoted as saying in a press statement.

All sacrificial animals had also gone through a selection process to make sure they are suitable for consumption.

Rohis Pegadaian also distributed 22 sacrificial animals that could yield approximately 4,500 packages of high-quality sacrificial meat. The distribution took place at Pegadaian Kebon Nanas outlet in Jakarta on Friday.

Pegadaian went on to say that this program aslo aligns with the sustainable development goal of zero hunger.
