Jakarta. Rupiah strengthened against the US dollar on Tuesday, recovering to below Rp 18,000 as Indonesia’s investment realization reached 75.4% of its annual target and easing US-Russia tensions supported market sentiment.

Rupiah closed up 54 points, or 0.30%, at Rp 17,992 per dollar, compared with Rp 18,046 in the previous session.

Traze Andalan Futures director Ibrahim Assuaibi said the currency gained support from Indonesia’s investment realization, which reached Rp 1,539.2 trillion in January-September 2026, equivalent to 75.4% of this year’s target.

External factors also supported the rupiah as tensions between the United States and Russia eased over trade issues following President Donald Trump’s executive order to lift major US sanctions and tariffs related to Russia.

However, geopolitical risks persisted in the Middle East. Yemen’s Houthi militant group said it had launched several attacks targeting energy facilities, airports and military sites in Saudi Arabia, keeping regional tensions elevated.

The rupiah also strengthened despite concerns over the Federal Reserve’s monetary policy outlook. Recent remarks by Fed officials suggested openness to further tightening, although they have yet to signal a clear move toward raising interest rates at the Oct. 27-28 meeting.

“This week, the US economic calendar will not feature speeches by Federal Reserve officials because it coincides with the blackout period ahead of the October Federal Open Market Committee meeting,” Ibrahim said.

At 3:59 p.m. Jakarta time, Bloomberg data showed the rupiah trading at Rp 14,065 per Singapore dollar, Rp 113.77 per Japanese yen, Rp 12,585 per Australian dollar and Rp 20,182 per euro.
